BMC FB156/01 Replacement Air Filter is a direct-fit panel for naturally aspirated 996 and early 997 Carreras. It drops into the standard airbox in place of the paper element and flows better, with no modification to the car.

BMC is the oiled-cotton option, made in Italy. Multi-layered cotton gauze soaked in low-viscosity oil, wrapped in an epoxy-coated alloy mesh that resists petrol fumes and humidity. BMC rates the media at 7 microns against roughly 10 for OEM paper — more airflow and finer filtration together. Supplied pre-oiled; cleaned and re-oiled with a BMC regeneration kit rather than replaced. Be sparing with the oil at service time — an over-oiled element is how filter oil ends up on a mass airflow sensor.

Note: BMC lists FB156/01 without a multi-filter annotation — it is supplied as a single filter. Clean and re-oil at service intervals with a BMC regeneration kit; use BMC filter oil only and apply it sparingly. Let the element dry fully before refitting.
