Sport cats versus bypass pipes is the question most buyers are actually asking. High-flow sport cats keep catalytic converters in the system — quieter, cleaner, far less likely to trigger a check engine light, and street-legal in most places. Bypass or test pipes delete the cats entirely: louder, marginally more power, and they will usually set a CEL unless the tune addresses the downstream oxygen sensor readings.

On turbocharged cars, exhaust and tuning work together. Freeing the exhaust side without recalibrating leaves most of the gain unclaimed, and the reverse is also true — a tune can only take advantage of the flow the hardware allows.

PSE compatibility matters if your car has the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust. Not every aftermarket system works with the PSE valve system, and it is stated on each product page where it applies.
